Changes Coming to cj's radio olio...

Between now (Dec.18) & Christmas Eve,cj's radio olio will upgrade from 32kps mp3pro to 64kps mp3pro streaming. What this will mean to you,the listeners,is:
- A higher quality audio stream for mp3 listeners, and near CD quality (128kps) sound for those of you with mp3pro decoding players (Player365-VIP[less than $5/month from Live365],Winamp 2.9x with mp3pro decoder plug-in)
- The Trade-off: when the transition is complete,cj's radio olio will only be availible to those broadband connections (The stream will not be able to be recieved by dial-up listeners)

This is an issue that I have studied for nearly six months. I have looked at it from all angles, and have looked at & listened to broadcasters who have made the switch to Broadband Only. I dislike the possibility of losing any listeners by this change & I hope that I don't. However, this is the only way that I can continue to broadcast. Without whining about the details,my financial situation is bad. I can continue to broadcast if I can add more VIP listeners (Live365 has a 'Revenue-Sharing' program based on the number of VIP listening hours to your stream each month + people who sign up through your website/Live365 station page link). The best way I can afford to continue to broadcast is to move up to the highest quality stream possible. That's 64k/44/stereo mp3pro. I've listened to the difference, and it is substantial.

I hope that this change won't affect your continued listening to cj's radio olio. Again, the change will happen between Dec.18 and Dec.24. I plan to continue to stream the W-i-d-e-s-t selection of recordings availible to your computer 24/7. Thank You,for proving that people DON'T want to hear "The Same Stuff Over & Over"! Keep listening to cj's radio olio - all genres/all eras/all the time!
Love & Peace.

Many different Cultures & Religions are now/will be observing special days & periods over the next couple of months. All of us with computers are extremely fortunate to be alive during this time in history. Many of us "Over 25's" know how much computer-access & the Internet have changed human life. Just the idea of being able to broadcast a song or listen to a song virtually anywhere on the planet is absolutely astonishing!

It doesn't take much to overload ourselves this time of year. There's never enough hours in the day (or days in the week) to get everything done we want to do. But we all need to stop long enough to remember the fact that many people don't have the advantages we have. Many don't even have what we'd consider the basic necessities for life. Sometime during this season, look at what you have;Do you really need ALL those shirts, some of which you hardly wear? Do you need those coffee cups you don't have room in the cabinet for? What about that "back-up" printer or those cds & floppys of programs you haven't used in over a year? Got any books or magazines stuck away in boxes or stacked in closets? Old small appliences you don't/never used?

Anything that you have extra of,or don't use at least once a month, donate it to a local charitable group. Ask family, friends,& neighbors who might could make use of this or that. Programs for remedial education & skills training can use many software programs to help others to learn how to support themselves & their families. And hardware is needed by many organizations for their basic operations. Got screws, nails, hand or power tools,or lumber left over from projects past? Contact 'Habitat for Humanity'. Pay attention to your own neighborhood;your own block. Is there a house needing some basic upkeep that the owner cannot do or a vacant lot that needs cleaning off? Get together a group to lend a hand.

There are so many ways to assist people who are less fortunate. I know from experience. Hundreds of miles from home,no friends or family to see:On Christmas day 1990 a group of 5 or 6 people got together & took a couple of pieces of fruit,a note pad & pencil,& a smile to each of the patients in the Texas State Chest Hospital in San Antonio,Texas. I was one of those lucky patients. I cannot express the joyous feelings in my heart that day. Sure,it wasn't much materially, but it was just the fact that someone acknowledged our existence! We had worth as human beings!

That's the kind of difference our giving can have. Let's all try & do some "Free Giving" this year.It costs nothing, yet has priceless value.
Love & Peace.

OK,here's what happened over the weekend...
Sunday,I was ready to wipe out my old files & upload new copies that sounded better & were in absolute compliance w/Live365's needs. After deleting the old files on Live's server,I found that I had NO WAY to upload files that XP Home would play nice with. XP had been getting a little picky lately but it turned downright snotty towards me. I did a reinstall:no difference. I then backed up ALL files, apps, etc.,& Monday(after 10 hrs. spent on this Sun.) I did a "Clean Install". That seemed to do it. I'm still recovering(reinstalling apps, resetting preferences, wondering where some files are that I Know I Saved :-)) but it's finally getting back to abnormal. So that's what I've been doing in My Hobby:-) the last few days. Only took about 24 hrs. over three days...WHEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee!
It's all better now...
Love & Peace.

Wanna know what this is About? My Radio Station,cj's radio olio, that's what! Also there may be references to my actual life off-line. Right now that's non-existent,so let's get to the olio, shall we?
cj's radio olio is a freeform(& I do mean freeform)stream of music & entertainment flowing through Live365.com. Included in the changing group of files I draw from for playlists are music & spoken word files that date from 1897 up to this year. What style(s) of music, you ask? It's easy to say what I don't have(right now):symphonic & small-group classical, ambient, electronica,& house mixes. And the only reason those aren't included right now is that I don't know much about them,& I'm real flat broke.:-(
Want an example of this ecclecticism? Here's 10 files from my current playlist:Prince-She Gave Her Angels(from The Muppet Show;Charlie Pride-Wonder Could I Live There Anymore;Glen Miller & his Orchestra-In the Mood;Gil Scott-Heron -The Revolution Will Not Be Televised; The Thermals-God Damn the Light;Zero Mostel & cast-Comedy Tonight!;Bing Crosby-Gay Love; The Box Tops-'60's Coca Cola Ad;Dylan Thomas reading his poem The Force;& Groucho Marx. But that's this week...
To feel the love,go to my station site at Live365.com,cj's radio olio (registration is simple, but required). If you'd like some more info on the olio try my website. I'll do my darndest (or more) to keep you updated via this blog. Next time...same bat-channel!

Love & Peace,Clarence
